Adjustment Issues
An adjustment disorder is a poor reaction to an identifiable stressor that develops within 3 months of the beginning of the stressor. There is an impairment in social, occupational, or academic functioning, and/or distress that is in excess of what would be expected. By definition, the disorder resolves itself with 6 months of the termination of the stressor or its consequences.
There are many reasons that someone may be struggling with the adjustment of a new life situation. Listed below are several:
- New roles in the family home
- Getting married
- Having children
- Changing Roles
- Children leaving home
- Job loss
- Retirement
- Death of a loved one
- Injury/disease/or disability
Whatever your issue, the important thing is that you come talk to someone about what is distressing you.
